Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, the role will be responsible for leading the finance technology strategic planning, design, and implementation of finance system upgrades and process improvements across Husky. The aim is to optimize financial operations through technology and process automations, while driving significant change management initiatives to ensure successful adoption of new systems and workflows. 

As a part of the Global Controller’s Group, this role serves as the interface and will work closely with Information Technology (“DST”) and project management leads on finance transformation and financial system projects/initiatives. Also, working with other Husky stakeholders such as but not limited to Global Supply Chain, Logistics, and external service providers, this role will create and manage a program to ensure systems are functioning as designed and issue response steps are in place. All work will be completed in accordance with Husky’s internal standards.

 

Major Responsibilities: 

Strategic Vision and Roadmap: Develop and execute a comprehensive finance transformation strategy, identifying areas for system improvement, process automation, and data integration to align with overall business objectives.

System Selection and Implementation: Lead or co-lead with DST or other Husky stakeholders the evaluation, selection and implementation of new finance systems (enterprise resource planning (“ERP”), budgeting tools, reporting platforms), ensuring seamless integration with other enterprise systems.

Process Optimization: Analyze existing finance processes, identify inefficiencies, and design streamlined workflows to improve accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. 

Change Management: Develop and implement a robust change management strategy to effectively communicate transformation initiatives, train users, and manage resistance to change.

Stakeholder Management: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and leadership to gather requirements, address concerns, and ensure alignment.

Data Governance: Establish data quality standards and governance processes to ensure accurate and reliable financial data for reporting and decision making.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Develop key performance indicators (“KPIs”) to track the success of transformation initiatives and regularly report progress to senior management.

Team Leadership: Lead and mentor (both formally and informally) a team of finance systems analysts, project managers, and business analysts responsible for system implementation and process improvement.

Spacific Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for troubleshooting and solving complex system issues, day-to-day systems management, administration, and technical end user support of all accounting and finance systems.

  • Manages the daily finance systems’ operations as part of the Global Controller’s Group.

  • Responsible for design and implementation of system and accounting procedures necessary to ensure accurate and timely data transfer between the general ledger, consolidation and reconciliation tool and data warehouse.

  • Prepares recommendations for the design of new systems and expanded functionality within existing systems.

  • Coordinates the efforts of applications programmers in specific user areas.

  • Act as a liaison between the Finance and IT departments. Meet with IT to explain, discuss and resolve system functionality and data processing issues. Meet with various department representatives to supply data processing needs. Meet with external auditors to provide information about data processing flow and security.

  • Sets coding and documentation standards for software developed in support of corporate users. Maintains all codes and documentation necessary for the operation of the accounting system.

  • Documents system procedures and processes.

  • Manage the end-to-end project life cycle, which includes developing the business case, scope definition, and resource requirements. Manage the financial and resource budgets across the project.

  • Work with the project team and key stakeholders to set and manage expectations for project delivery.

  • Work with selected vendors and internal stakeholders to establish engagements contracts.

  • Work with the project team to elaborate the delivery approach (waterfall, agile) into comprehensive plans.

  • Proactively manage project issues and risks, including the development of mitigation actions where necessary.

  • Comply with Sarbanes-Oxley internal controls when managing project execution. Propose improvements to existing processes when appropriate and help implement new processes.

  • Ensure that all day-to-day system matters are resolved in a timely basis to ensure that the financial reporting function can run smoothly.

Qualifications:

Finance Expertise – Deep understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting and internal controls.

Technology Acumen – Proven experience with ERP systems, data analysis tools, and project management software.

Change Management Skills – Proven ability to lead large scale change initiatives, including stakeholder engagement and communication strategies.

Analytical Skills – Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify areas for improvement and evaluate potential solutions.

Leadership and Communication – Excellent communication skills to effectively present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Project Management – Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects within budget and timelines.

Education and Experience:

  • University Degree or College Diploma in a related field

  • Knowledge of accounting principles (i.e. IFRS or U.S. GAAP), financial reporting and internal controls

  • Knowledge of Information Technology (IT) pertaining to Finance Systems and Processes

  • 10-15 years of management related experience 

  • Experience in leading projects >1 year in duration

  • Experience in leading diverse types of projects

  • Certification in a project management methodology (e.g. PMBOK, Prince2, Scrum master) considered an asset

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX, OneStream and Concur Invoice will be considered as a strong asset
